Postbank and SASSA Announce Urgent Deadline for SASSA Gold Card Replacement

Beneficiaries Urged to Get New Postbank Black Cards by 28 February 2025

07 February 2025 | Pretoria – The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and Postbank have officially announced the deadline for replacing SASSA Gold Cards with the new Postbank Black Cards. Beneficiaries must complete the transition by 28 February 2025 to continue receiving and accessing their social grant payments.

Failure to replace the SASSA Gold Card before this deadline will result in grant payments being inaccessible, as Gold Cards will be permanently deactivated. After 28 February 2025, they will no longer function for withdrawals at ATMs and retailers or for transactions such as balance inquiries, statement printing, and in-store purchases.

Why Is This Change Happening?

Postbank began issuing Postbank Black Cards in September 2024 as part of an initiative to enhance security and improve the customer experience for social grant recipients. Hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries have already transitioned to the new cards, ensuring uninterrupted access to their funds.

The February 2025 grant payments (4–6 February) will be the last payments processed using the SASSA Gold Cards.

“We appeal to beneficiaries that have not yet switched to Postbank Black Cards to act now and avoid disruptions to their payments. All SASSA Gold Cards will stop working on 28 February 2025, regardless of the expiry date on the card.”Nikki Mbengashe, Postbank CEO
