Now that you have all the required documents ready, it’s time to move forward with the application process. Applying for the Cultural Exchange Program requires careful planning, as each step plays a crucial role in determining whether you’ll be accepted.

Step 1: Choose a Partner Agency
Before applying, you need to select a recognized agency that will help place you in a U.S. school. If you missed it, check Part 2, where we listed some of the top agencies.

✔️ Contact the agency to confirm their requirements
Step 2: Submit an Online Application
Most agencies require you to complete an online application form. This form will ask for:
📝 Personal Information – Full name, nationality, contact details
📝 Educational Background – Degree, university, graduation year
📝 Work Experience – Schools you’ve taught at, years of experience
📝 Preferred Teaching Subjects & Grade Levels

Step 3: Upload Required Documents
You will be asked to upload:
✔️ Degree certificate and transcripts
✔️ Teaching license/certification (if applicable)
✔️ Recommendation letters
✔️ Passport & police clearance
✔️ English proficiency test results (if required)
Credential Evaluation: If required, submit your degree for verification through WES, ECE, or NACES before proceeding.
Step 4: Pay Any Necessary Fees (If Applicable)
Some agencies charge application or processing fees. Always confirm with the agency beforehand and beware of scams asking for large upfront payments!

Step 5: Attend the Interview

Step 6: Receive a Job Offer & Placement
If you pass the interview, you’ll be matched with a U.S. school that needs teachers in your subject area. The agency will send you a contract outlining:

✔️ Visa sponsorship details
💡 Tip: Carefully read the contract before signing. If you have concerns, discuss them with the agency before accepting the offer.
Step 7: Apply for the J-1 Visa
Once you accept the job offer, your agency will guide you through the J-1 visa application process.
🛂 Key Steps for the J-1 Visa:
✔️ Receive Form DS-2019 (Certificate of Eligibility) from your agency
✔️ Pay the SEVIS Fee ($220)
✔️ Schedule and attend a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy in your home country
✔️ Receive your visa approval and prepare for travel
